Tucson Escorts: 2nd shooting death outside club results in arrest of man, 28

Angel Martinez had been inside the club — which is only open to people 21 and older — talking with at least two other men when he stepped outside and was confronted by two or three men, Pacheco said. Angel Martinez got into an altercation with one man, then Cliffton Martinez pulled out a gun and shot Angel Martinez, Pacheco said.
Martinez was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:56 a.m., Pacheco said.
Tucson gang detectives handled the investigation because Cliffton Martinez and the other suspects were believed to be active gang members, Pacheco said.
A homicide at the Candy Store in late July closely mirrored Wednesday’s slaying in terms of its circumstances, though the two aren’t related, Pacheco said.
David H. Tyne, 31, was shot and killed outside The Candy Store on July 30.
“It was almost a blueprint of that one,” Pacheco said.
Tucson police arrested 28-year-old Andre Lightsey-Copeland on Aug. 12 in connection with the Tyne slaying.
The Candy Store has been the subject of numerous allegations of prostitution occurring within the club, though no arrests have been made, Pacheco said.

Tucson Adult Entertainment: New Police Chief takes over in South Tucson

… For many years we’ve had landlords that have been absentee landlords. They’ve been sent their checks and haven’t really been monitoring their properties,” Chief Richard Munoz said.
He is working on Chapter Seven, a neighborhood protection ordinance so landlords are held accountable.
“This is what the chapter seven will help us with is places where we get an inordinate amount of calls,” Munoz said.
“Because of our staffing levels we haven’t been able to do any proactive things,” Munoz said.
He has two police positions to fill and a third position has been created with stimulus money. When they’re up to 18 full time officers, Munoz plans to use an 80 thousand dollar Stone Garden grant.
“They’re going to include prostitution stings, drug stings, we’re going to be checking for drop houses in the area,” Munoz said.

Tucson Adult Entertainment: ‘Illegal alien’ costume controversy splits between immigrant rights, free speech

The “costume is hilarious,” wrote grhspartan. “There are too many people in this country that are too easily offended. The PC police really worked overtime on this one.”
While national retailers Target, Amazon.com and Walgreens quickly pulled the costume, others did not.
“It’s not a caricature of an illegal immigrant; it’s a play on words,” said Jalem Getz, CEO of BuySeasons, which owns buycostumes.com. The company sold out its supply of 150 costumes over the weekend and doesn’t expect to have more available to ship before Halloween, spokeswoman Lori Sansoucie said Tuesday.
Halloween USA is selling the costume at some of its stores, including its Walker location at 3165 Alpine Ave. NW. But they aren’t selling well, an employee said.
Cooper Jones noticed the costume on display at the store hanging an arm’s reach from pimp and Border Patrol costumes.

Tucson Adult Entertainment: Augusta Chronicle Editorial Staff

A Halloween costume that has drawn attention this season is an “illegal alien” outfit available in some retail stores. It consists of an orange prison jumpsuit with “Illegal Alien” stenciled on the front, and a rubber mask depicting a space alien. It won’t win points for subtlety, but people see the humor in it.
But not the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, which has petitioned several big-box retailers to pull the costume from their shelves. The group says the connotation of the costume is offensive to Hispanics, who comprise the majority of America’s illegal immigrants.
But check out some of the costumes for sale right now — a Mexican in a serape, sombrero and droopy mustache, or a pimp in a gaudy, fur-trimmed suit. You can even get a straitjacket if you want to poke fun at the mentally ill. Talk about politically incorrect!

Tucson Adult Entertainment: Illegal Alien Costume Provokes Controversy

Who would have thought a little piece of latex and an old orange jumpsuit would cause a controversy?  Well, Target certainly didn’t, but here they are issuing apologies and removing things from their store thanks to the Illegal Alien costume.  It’s a space alien mask, prisoner jumpsuit, and a big green card that says “Green Card” on it.  I imagine that’s the kicker that made immigrant rights groups lose their minds.
It makes me wonder.  Are people getting more sensitive these days?  When I looked through the costume shop of some other online retailers, including Target competitors who still stocked the Illegal Alien outfit, I saw a bunch of other things that could be offensive.   Like, say, a Mexican Bandit costume with giant mustache.  Ninjas and samurai and sumo wrestlers.  Lots of “white trash” and “hillbilly” costumes.  Hobos of various sizes and shapes.  An army of pimps, cross-dressers, and leprechauns.  And lots and lots of fat people costumes.

Tucson Adult Entertainment: Tucson’s Pride in the Desert ‘09

Tucson is having Pride this weedend, October 10th and the Pride on Parade is on October 9th.
I was just wondering how many girls from AE were going to join in on the festivities
I was going to go last year but stayed home and watched “When a Stanger Calls” and chatted about Alicia Sacramone on LJ. So this will be my first time at Pride and I can’t think of a better time to go since Jonny McGovern aka The Gay Pimp will be in town for it. Also the funny Margaret Cho will be in Tucson too, as a Grand Marshal of Pride on Parade. You can go to www.tucsonpride.org for all the info.
I can’t wait to go, hope to see some of you out in Tucson.
p.s. Does anyone else think it’s way too cold at night in Tucson?
