Tucson Strip Clubs: Nude club ordinance in the works

Nude club ordinance in the works
TUCSON – Dancers have to be at least 18 years old to strip, fully nude, in Tucson and one city leader wants that changed.
City councilman, Steve Kozachik says if you want to dance, you should be 21.
And here’s the catch.
Businesses that serve booze, in Arizona, are already regulated by the state, so Kozachik’s plan could only apply to dry clubs within the city of Tucson.
A number of women’s groups in Tucson are backing the councilmen’s idea to up the age limit. However, a strip club manager News 4 talked with is not happy about it.
Kozachik says young women and men can be exploited, “frankly you get into an environment like that, there is psychological, chemical and physical abuse going on.”

Tucson Strip Clubs: City Council denies liquor license transfer of strip club

City Council denies liquor license transfer of strip club
TUCSON – An east side strip club has new owners, but Tucson city council voted unanimously to deny the transfer of the liquor license to the new owner.
The previous owner was fined 50-thousand dollars for violations and had to give-up the license. This past spring, Tucson police raided the candy store and arrested six people who worked there.
The strip club has been plagued with criminal activity.
From September of 2008 to this year, Tucson police have responded to 139 calls two of them murders.
For 30 years the location has always been a strip club.
Now, it’s known as a Gentlemen’s Show club.
But it’s not the name neighbors have a problem with or even the business, it’s the crime that has gone on in their parking lots.

TUCSON (KGUN9- TV)- The Candy Store, a gentleman’s club on 22nd and Craycroft doesn’t have the sweetest reputation.  Shrouded in violent crime and drug activity, nearby residents like Ellen Brown may be one step closer to shutting it down.
“We always heard the sirens going off out there, we heard gunshots at that location,” said Brown, president of her neighborhood association, “we don’t necessarily have a problem with a bar at that location.  We just want it to be a safe place.”
She’s one of many who wrote state and city officials about the location’s liquor license.  It all started in 2009 when the club saw two shootings and a police raid where 5 employees left in handcuffs.
“The problem with the Candy Store was they had a lot of violent crimes going on for a while there, there was a series of them and they didn’t do much to try to control that,” said Lt. Lew Bentley with the Tucson Police Department.
