Tucson Strip Clubs: City looking to increase age of full nude strippers

City looking to increase age of full nude strippers

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) – Club Turbulence used to be a fully nude bar until they recently acquired their liquor license. That prompted the Tucson City Council to start considering an ordinance that would require all clubs that don’t sell alcohol to only hire and serve people over 21 years old. Councilman Steve Kozachik was the driving force behind the ordinance.
“We are placing young women in a position, 18 years old, where they’re standing up and not just dancing topless I mean totally nude in front of in essence their high school classmates,” Kozachik said.
If you head out and talk to the community you’ll find people who agree with the councilman.
“When you turn 21 you do want to drink you want to have a good time so. There’s more maturing from 21 on so I think increasing the age would probably be smart,” Kelly Hicks, a supporter of the ordinance, said.

Tucson Strip Clubs: Nanny State Alert: Tucson City Councilman Propos…

Nanny State Alert: Tucson City Councilman Proposes Higher Age Requirements for Strippers

If Kozachik has his way, women would need to be 21 years old to become a stripper at strip clubs that don’t serve alcohol — not 18, as is the current requirement.

We have problems with this proposition on several fronts. First being, of course: we like our strippers as close to the age of consent as possible — for nostalgic reasons. When you turn 18, you’re an adult. Whether you act like an adult is up to you, not Councilman Kozachik.
Secondly, assuming every stripper under the age of 21 has made bad choices somewhere along the way is a bit presumptive. We’re sure stripping isn’t the ideal profession for a high school grad, but it pays well and can lead to other opportunities like

Tucson Strip Clubs: Tucson considers higher age rules for strippers

Tucson considers higher age rules for strippers
Associated Press – October 14, 2010 12:24 PM ET
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) – Strippers in Tucson would have to be at least 21 years old under a city ordinance that is now being considered.
Strip clubs that serve alcohol already require dancers and customers to be 21 under state rules.
Fully nude clubs that don’t serve drinks can hire women as young as 18 and admit clients that young as well.
The Arizona Daily Star says city council member Steve Kozachik proposed the higher age because he was concerned about giving young people an opportunity to make better choices.
The Council discussed the proposed ordinance at its study session on Wednesday but took no action.
Only one club currently in business in the city would be affected by the ordinance.

Tucson Strip Clubs: State grants liquor license to strip club: causes turbulence with residents

State grants liquor license to strip club: causes turbulence with residents

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) – Club Turbulence is causing some, well, turbulence among residents who live in the same area. The Sunnyside Neighborhood Association is upset over the state’s decision to give the club a liquor license.
When Beki Qeintero, the President of the S.N.A, heard club Turbulence was granted a liquor licence, the word angry doesn’t come close to describing how she felt.
She told KGUN 9, “As it is our vice unit has been disbanded, so we don’t even have them anymore because of budget cuts. And so as we decrease officers, that’s less people to check on the safety and welfare places that have liquor licenses.”
The Tucson City council agreed. But Steve Kozachik tells told KGUN 9 he’s still conflicted on the issue, “It was a distinction between are we as a community going to embrace 18-year-old girls, and 18-year-old boys meeting in a club that does not sale alcohol and allowing the young girls to stand up nude in front of them and dance?”

Tucson Strip Clubs: Club Turbulence approved to sell alcohol

TUCSON – Club Turbulence, an all nude strip club, has been approved by the state liquor board for a liquor license. This according to one of the neighborhood leaders, Yolanda Herrera, who led the charge against the club being able to serve alcohol. The club had applied many times for liquor license but the Tucson city council voted no. The matter was brought to the state alcohol agency Thursday and was approved.
Community leaders near the club say selling liquor will only add to problems already at the club and in surrounding area. In prior interview with News 4 Tucson, the club said if approved, it would change the way it does business. The sale of liquor means Club Turbulence will no longer be an all nude club and the dancers must now be 21 years-old.

Tucson Strip Clubs: Tucson gentlemen’s club receives nod from State Liquor Board

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) – Arizona’s state liquor board voted Thursday afternoon to approve a liquor license application for Club Turbulence. The vote was 5-2.
Club Turbulence is currently an all nude gentlemen’s club welcomes patrons who are 18 years of age and older, but serves no alcohol. Once the club receives paperwork from the liquor board, its minimum age will be raised to 21 and over.
Tucson’s city council members voted previously in opposition of the club receiving a liquor license. But the board decided that wasn’t enough to deny Club Turbulence its license.
A spokesperson for the club welcomed the decision. The club tells KGUN9 News it does not have a specific date when it will begin serving alcohol.  But the earliest they anticipate would be 2 months in mid-December.

Tucson Strip Clubs: Murder charge dropped in Tucson strip club shooting

Murder charge dropped in Tucson strip club shooting
By Kim Smith Arizona Daily Star Arizona Daily Star | Posted: Tuesday, October 5, 2010 4:43 pm
A first-degree murder charge has been dismissed against a 29-year-old man arrested last October in the shooting death of another man outside a midtown strip club.
Deputy Pima County Attorney Lewis Brandes said the case against Cliffton Martinez was dismissed when a key witness was unable to identify him as Angel A. Martinez’s shooter in court recently. The case was dismissed with prejudice, meaning it can not be refiled, he said.
Martinez had been scheduled to go to trial this week in Pima County Superior Court.
Angel Martinez suffered a fatal gunshot wound at 1:17 a.m. Oct. 28, 2009, after getting into a fight outside The Candy Store, 1104 S. Craycroft Road.

Tucson Escorts: KOLD News 13Community outreach helps police fight crime

… Hopefully we can be proactive and stop something from occurring or nip something right away before it becomes a greater problem,” Sgt. Navarro said.
A more than $12 million Department of Justice grant will give Tucson Police 50 officers for more community involvement.  But the police chief has said that will only happen if voters approve a sales tax increase and the department doesn’t have to make more cuts.  If that happens, the new spots could just be more patrol officers.  Current outreach could also be scaled back because of layoffs.
“What is the trade off?  More murders?  More prostitution?”  Higginbotham-Perkins said about losing the community outreach officers that she sees.  But she still wants to make sure that if she approves a sales tax increase, the money will be spent wisely.
