Tucson Adult Entertainment: Tucson Raises Age of Nude Adult Entertainers From 18 to 21

TUCSON, Ariz.—Despite protests by adult performers during the meeting, the Tucson City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to increase the age for adult entertainers at fully nude establishments from 18 to 21 years old. Oddly enough, Tucson has only one fully nude adult entertainment business, the Bunny Ranch.
According to the Arizona Daily Star, an assistant manager and several other employees from the Bunny Ranch said the decision discriminates against women’s equal opportunity employment rights.
“This is a women’s rights thing. It’s discriminatory against their rights and our business,” said 23-year-old assistant manager Marcus Richardson. “I don’t understand why the city would pass this and possibly lose another business.”
The move by the council, which takes effect Jan. 1, will have an immediate impact on the Bunny Ranch, which features more than a dozen performers, only two of whom are 21 or over, according to 19-year-old employee Kiernan Hinks, who told the Star she has another part-time job but needs the Bunny Ranch gig to pay for school.

The ordinance also requires age verification when a person applies for an adult entertainment employee license.

Tucson Strip Clubs: Strippers demand justice at Tucson City Council meeting

Strippers demand justice at Tucson City Council meeting
Tonight’s Mayor and Council meeting had strippers from the Bunny Ranch show up to protest the raising of the stripping age to 21.
About half a dozen citizens and female taxpayers exercised their First Amendment rights and told the council that they are strongly opposed to the ordinance, and made some really good points.
At the age of 18, US citizens are legally considered adults, and they will be tried as adults if they break the law. They are allowed …

It wasn’t just the devastating news that 20-year-old Angel A. Martinez had been shot that shocked his family. It was where he was murdered last year – outside a midtown strip club.
Martinez, a Pima Community College student and youth leader at a local recreation center, had been inside the The Candy Store, 1104 S. Craycroft Road, a 21-and-older club, speaking with at least two men.
When he stepped outside around 1:15 a.m., Oct. 28, 2009, Martinez was confronted by two or three other men, according to the Tucson Police Department.
He got into a fight with one, and another pulled out a gun and shot him.

Tucson Adult Entertainment: Libertarian Party co-founder dead

David F. Nolan, whose fierce belief in limited government, personal freedom and the free-market economy led him to band with a handful of like-minded friends to found the national Libertarian Party in 1971, has died. He was 66.
According to Mark Hinkle, chairman of the partys national committee, Nolan apparently had a stroke or heart attack while driving in Tucson, Ariz., on Saturday. He was found in his car and taken to a Tucson hospital, where he died early Sunday, Hinkle said.
The Libertarian Party has often been called the Party of Principle for its strict adherence to its ideals, even at the risk of alienating voters. It has advocated for limiting government in every sense, and its positions have included legalizing prostitution and drugs, removing restrictions on abortion and gay marriage, and ending U.S. involvement in foreign wars.
