My “pay no attention to the man behind the curtain” award goes to that bow tie-wearing wizard of the North, syndicated columnist George Will. This eclectic writer and constant apologist of the rich, the elite and the privileged nabobs recently attempted to pull the wool over American eyes.
In a column headlined “Fingers point at conservatives yet again” (Jan. 13 edition), Will attempted to divert attention away from the guilty. Yes, those hate-twisted fools who created and caused the atmosphere of violence and bitterness resulting in the Tucson, Ariz., shootings.
Will tried his best to explain away and deny the obvious, which, simply put, names the culprits who created the pollution. This, of course, was none other than the rabble-rousing right. That happy-go-lucky bunch of town hall screamers and bully boys, the tea party bigots and the usual grousers and malcontents who always blame their own failure in life on the “guvermint.” The deniers are even denying that Glenn Beck, Limbaugh and other prostitutes for the right have anything at all to do with the loathsome gas.

Shawna Forde Arizona Murder Case Opens Amid Jared Loughner’s Lingering Gunsmoke
Opening statements are set today in what could be a lengthy Arizona trial to determine the fate of ex-Seattle prostitute Shawna Forde and, for that matter, Tucson. The national media is now covering the case, but likely wouldn’t have if Jared Loughner had taken his pills. The Daily Beast, for one, calls its Forde story today “Arizona’s Other Shooting Horror.” It’s not that Tucson is some idyllic desert crossroads – the sprawling city of a half-million had more than 50 homicides last year, 74 in 2008. (Seattle had 19 last year). But Loughner’s mad-man slaughter was an aberration, and Forde’s alleged murders took place down by the Mexican border.
No matter. While Tucson Mayor Robert Walkup tries to tamp down his city’s notoriety with his new “Civility Accord” – asking folks to be respectful and “choose words accordingly” – reporters will be telling the nation about this other “Tucson” horror, with a similar flavor and some of the same players.

Motel 6 deserves no blame or ridicule in connection with the shooting spree in Tucson. (Let’s save that for Sportsman’s Warehouse, where Loughner bought his Glock, and the Arizona lawmakers who have worked to make gunslinging so easy achievable in that state.)
I did a Google news search on Motel 6 earlier this week, and found most of the stories that popped up were, as I expected, about crimes: a man found bound and gagged inside a Motel 6 in Utah, an attempted robbery at a Motel 6 in Kansas, a man and woman arrested for using their Motel 6 room to print counterfeit money with an inkjet printer, a couple arrested with  2,000 illegally obtained pain and anti-anxiety pills at a Motel 6 in Alabama, a woman arrested on a prostitution charge after allegedly propositioning a plainclothes officer to join her in her Motel 6 room in Iowa.

King’s New Dream

MLK Day is today, and it got me to thinking about his legacy and the civility that everyone is now asking for in the wake of the Tucson
shooting.  MLK would be disgusted at how his legacy is being used: liberal blacks use him to establish a double standard, a sort of “have your cake and eat it, too,” while liberal whites prostitute his dream. 
When MLK fought for civil rights, there weren’t a lot of black mega-millionaires or black industry moguls like Oprah Winfrey or Jay-Z.  If BET existed at all, it would have been only because black people would not have been able to appear on “regular” TV.
Fourscore and three years later, the liberal black man in America is still a prisoner.  Liberal blacks are no longer “sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination,” as King wrote; instead, they have become prisoners of their own minds.

Silvio Berlusconi faces new investigation
MILAN, Italy, Jan. 14 (UPI) — Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi faces a new inquiry on allegations about a teenage nightclub dancer attending parties at his residence, officials said.
Berlusconi, 74, is suspected of abusing his power in trying to cover up his alleged encounters with Karima El Mahroug, The Daily Telegraph reported.
The investigation also allegedly involves underage prostitution allegations, sources told the British newspaper. Mahroug was 17 years old when she met Berlusconi last year, media outlets reported.
