TUCSON – The Mint Cocktails bar on Grant Road was recently purchased by new owners. The business partners also happen to operate Wild Boys, a group of men who provide entertainment to women.
“I think as far as calling us strippers, I’d rather be an entertainer. It’s not about going down and showing skin. It’s about putting on a show that’s professional done and tasteful, that women enjoy,” explained Chris Smith, one of the owners.
Owners Chris Smith and Skyy Garcia say they want to keep the regulars who frequent the bar during the day but they also want to offer karaoke, comedians, live bands and the Wild Boys entertainment a couple nights each week. Ronni Kotwica, president of the Palo Verde Neighborhood Association said when she and her fellow neighbors first met with Garcia and Smith, the two never mentioned the Wild Boys, “it just brings in a bad element and we want to cut that off before it begins.”

The Tucson investigation began April 12 after Kesterson was arrested in San Diego for an unrelated weapons-misconduct charge.
Kesterson told San Diego authorities he and Martinez buried the infant Jan. 8 after the baby died that day.
Sheriff’s detectives flew to San Diego and interviewed Kesterson on April 15. Kesterson told detectives Martinez was watching Vanessa when the baby died from sudden infant death syndrome.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department did not release a cause of death because the investigation is ongoing, said Deputy Dawn Barkman, a department spokeswoman.
During the interview, Kesterson told detectives Martinez made the decision to leave for San Diego.
Detectives interviewed Martinez on April 16. She said Kesterson was watching the baby while she was at her job at a Tucson strip club. Martinez added Kesterson contacted her while she was at work and let her know Vanessa was having trouble breathing.

Tucson Strip Clubs: Parents accused of killing infant arraigned on murder, abuse counts

The indictment doesn’t specify which parent is suspected of inflicting the injuries. The child abuse counts allege Olivia Paige Martinez, 20, and Jonathan Niles Kesterson, 26, either intentionally and knowingly hurt Vanessa under circumstances likely to cause death or permitted her to be placed in a situation in which her health was endangered.
On April 12, Kesterson was arrested in San Diego on a weapons charge. While speaking with police, he said his daughter Vanessa had died of sudden infant death syndrome while her mother was watching her on Jan. 8. Fearing state CPS would take their older child away, Kesterson said he and Martinez buried Vanessa in the desert.
Martinez said Kesterson was watching the baby while she worked at a Tucson strip club, and when she got home, the baby was dead.

Tiger Woods made it official on Tuesday when he announced on his personal website that he would be playing next week in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Marana’s Dove Mountain enclave.
Woods’ presence at the event will likely mean local TV stations and daily newspapers will have to double their staff coverage in order to keep track of every move the world’s most famous sex-addicted golfer makes. Whether that includes any forays into the seedier parts of Tucson is unclear.
Woods has played in four of the previous five Match Play events held in Marana, winning it all in 2008. Since then, though, he’s one only one of three matches, and missed the 2010 event while, um, marital issues.

Three men were shot outside an east-side strip club early Tuesday morning.
The shooting happened about 2 a.m. at Ten’s Showclub at the corner North Rosemont Boulevard and East Speedway, said Sgt. Maria Hawke, a Tucson police spokeswoman.
Police received several 911 calls reporting numerous shots fired in the area, she said.
The three men who were shot took themselves to the hospital, she said. Their injuries were described by police not life-threatening.
The shooting happened as a result of an altercation between two groups or two individuals, Hawke said.
One person involved in the incident was taken into custody for having an arrest warrant, she said.

Pima County prosecutors say 30-year-old Andre Lightsey-Copeland was sentenced Wednesday. He was given 27 months’ credit for time he’s already served in the Pima County Jail.
Lightsey-Copeland was convicted last month of second-degree murder in the July 2009 shooting death of David Tyne.
In a statement to the judge, Lightsey-Copeland apologized to Tyne’s family.
But the victim’s father, David Tyne Sr., says he can’t forgive Lightsey-Copeland and called him “morally deficient.”
Pima County Superior Court Judge Teresa Godoy told Lightsey-Copeland she believes he’s a decent man who lost his way when he started hanging out with the wrong people.

A murder victim’s father had a dramatic outburst in Pima County Superior Court Wednesday when the convicted murderer was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Andre Lightsey-Copeland, 30, was convicted last month of second-degree murder in the July 2009 shooting death of David Tyne outside what was at the time the Candy Store strip club, 1104 S. Craycroft Road.
On Wednesday Judge Teresa Godoy sentenced Lightsey-Copeland to 12 years in prison, with with two years and three months of credit for time he already served in the Pima County jail.
“You’re a lucky man. Twelve! Life is cheap,” David Tyne Sr. yelled at Lightsey-Copeland before walking out of the courtroom.
