Former Tucson School Superintendent Sentenced to Eight Years in Prison for “Child Sex Tourism
A former superintendent at the Gadsden Elementary School District near Tucson was sentenced to some prison time today for a vacation he planned last year and some photos cops found at his house.
The vacation 52-year-old Albert Thomas Rogers planned wasn’t to an exotic beach — it was to a Mexican hotel room, where he planned to have sex with a 14-year-old boy. And the photos were of kids, some as young as 5 years old, having sex.
Authorities say, on June 19, of last year, Rogers tried booking a “sex tourism” vacation through a business near Yuma. What Rogers didn’t know was that the “business” through which he booked his little getaway was actually run by undercover Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

Tucson Strip Clubs: The UA: love it, live it or leave it

The UA: love it, live it or leave it
By Luke Money

In comparison to much of the student population of the University of Arizona, my scholastic journey has been a little off the beaten path. From seventh through 12th grade I attended the same school: Northland Preparatory Academy in Flagstaff, AZ; a humble school that, for my first year, was housed in a building which used to be a strip club.  (And is now a church.)
Imagine my surprise, no, my awe, when I walked into my first-ever collegiate class, a history lecture that was bigger than my entire high school. The sheer enormity of the teeming masses of bright-eyed students seeking the same scholasticism was as impressive as it was overwhelming.

A few weeks later, I then came to realize that approximately half of my fellow Wildcats sought inebriation instead of education, and were far more often red-eyed than bright-eyed.

Tucson City Council votes to deny liquor license recommendation for local strip club
TUCSON – The Tucson City Council voted Wednesday night to deny a recommendation for liquor license for a local strip club in south Tucson.
Club Turbulence has applied numerous times for a liquor license, but has been voted down. Wednesday night, the Council voted unanimously to deny their recommendation to the state for a liquor license. But the state could still go another way. People came out for and against the club’s request. Those against say liquor would only add to problems already at the club and the area.”That’s the gateway to Tucson and as a visitor coming from all parts of the world, to have that be one of the first things that you see has got to leave the wrong impression about who and what Tucson is,” said Carl Bedford opposing the club.

Tucson Strip Clubs: Club Turbulence denied Liquor License

Club Turbulence denied Liquor License
TUCSON – A south side, exotic strip club was denied its 4th application for a liquor license since 2003. Each time south side neighborhood associations have fought to keep the club from getting it. The council voted 6 to 0 Wednesday night against a liquor license.
Club Turbulence has never had a liquor license, and if the neighborhood associations have it their way it never will.
In December of 2006, there was a shooting in the parking lot of the strip club. Police say a fight broke out, and one man was killed.
Yolanda Herrera says, “Without a liquor license what is that showing for its future?”
At a national night out gathering Tuesday night different neighborhood associations gathered signatures to keep the club from getting a liquor license.

Tucson Strip Clubs: Drowning Tucson by Aaron Michael Morales

Drowning Tucson is a series of vignettes, short stories, that serve to parse the life of its protagonist: the city of Tucson. Place is significant. It helps define an individual; we move to places that in some way highlight our virtues or vices — and this is often taken for granted in novels. New York becomes a default location that doesnt always carry much bearing on the story outside of that it is supposed to let the reader know that anything is possible. Morales takes location to a very specific ends, using it not to define his characters, but to reveal how characters define place. There are layers of meaning forcibly asserted on locations by the ways we interact with them, and Morales makes that painfully clear.
The strip clubs on Tucson’s Miracle Mile are simultaneously the envy of naïve high school boys, home of a frightening sexual awakening for another student on the run from a gang, the source of shame for an …

Tucson Strip Clubs: Hung – Tucson Is the Gateway to Dick or This Is Not Sexy (S02E02) – Episode review

Still, I’ve enjoyed the first two episodes, and I’m more than looking forward to the continuation of the season. The storytelling is subtle and if you don’t expect to be ROFLing at every bit of dialogue, it’ll be much more enjoyable. Trust me. Manage your expectations. Hung is not a comedy.
Selected quotes:
Ray’s neighbour: “You can fuck me, but you can’t take a mattress? Don’t be stupid, Ray.”
Jessica’s mother: “Teenagers hate everybody. Pent-up hormones. Once they have sex, they calm down. You were happy teenager because you were slut.”
Jessica’s mother: “Friends with first husband…goodbye second husband.”
Lenore: “Ok Ray, it’s my fault. I confused you with my talk on stripper theory. So, let me simplify. Your job is to take your penis and stick it in Claire’s vagina when she tells you to. And take it out when she tells you to. You’re not her shrink, you’re not her marriage counsellor, you’re not her priest.”
